Hi, my name is Jolene Roberts and I’m passionate about photography.

I first photographed a wedding while I was at  photography summer school run at my local library. I was about 12 years old and really enjoying learning about how to process Black and White film and create images. Towards the end of the course, we were told that there was a ‘Celebrity Wedding’ taking place at a local hotel and that we were allowed to go and take pictures! I was so excited as I'd never actually been to a wedding and had no idea what to expect. As it turned out, our tutor was exaggerating slightly, and we were just another group of squashed children and part of the crowd as the bride and groom came out to wave and see all the well wishers. I only managed to get blurry distanced shots but was thrilled to see what I captured nonetheless! What  I will always remember about that day though, was how wonderful and exciting it all was, how happy and beautiful the bride and groom looked, the brightness of the colours of the decorations outside the hotel, and the feeling of the energy in the air. I was hooked. 

More than 30 years later and I’m still just as excited (albeit somewhat more experienced) to photograph weddings. I love them all, from cosy, intimate gatherings with informal coverage to huge show stopping extravaganzas. They’re all different but the one thing that I see and aim to capture every time, is the connection, love and excitement between the couple and their families.

I’ve now been photographing weddings as a professional for over 10 years. Before that, I had a very rewarding career as a Special Needs Tutor at a local Mencap College. It was a great time in my life and really fitted in with where I was up to in having my own young family. 

However, having done my first degree in photography, I was asked to take the photos for a friends wedding and it sparked my passion for photography once again.  I soon found that my summer holidays were no longer a break from work and that the 6 weeks were quickly booking up with more and more weddings until I had to decide which career to follow. 

The rest, as they say, is history and I love where the journey has taken me. 

My style of photography has developed over many years and while I’m constantly learning and developing new skills, my core style is to take high quality, classic, timeless images that capture the essence of the moment. 

Now, with my family that bit older,  I feel that I have a little more ‘me’ time, I love getting stuck into DIY projects, interiors and gardening has become a bit of obsession! I love huge and crazy tropical plants and always look for inspiration while travelling or on holidays. 

I’ve found that self employment really suits me too, I love the freedom it gives me to work my own, often long hours, but the fact that I can choose my own schedule means I make time for family, friends, fitness and fun, the truly important things in life!
